Fractal thingy 567

I just need to start by saying that as a person who's religious life does not extend after my baptism before I was one year old, I don't really know anything about Purgatory.... I tried to look it up on Wikipedia, but it appears that everyone had a slightly different opinion on what it is.... I always thought it was a halfway between heaven and hell... But some seem to say otherwise... So I still only half know... I just like how the word sounds :p

I got to use the radial blur variation for the first time and actually feel like it helped :D So I feel very clever with myself now, lol.

For Dante, Purgatory is a place standing in between Hell and Paradise, where the souls of those who shall be forgiven pay for their sins in a way that is much lighter than what is done in Hell. After a time of trial and suffering, they are finally purified in the river of Heaven, and they can thus ascend to Paradise.

As a side note, my nickname comes from that river. :)

I'm actually an atheist, and for an atheist, the name sure sounds religious. But I love Dante's Divine Comedy so much that I couldn't help it. =P

I'm an atheist too...but religion makes the best concepts and fancy words :D I think it's important to know a little about religion, even of you don't believe in it.

Purgatory is one the way to Heaven. If a person is in Purgatory, they have 100% no way of going to Hell. The name comes from the ideas of being "purged" of sin, it where people go to be removed from sin before entering Heaven. This is where the concrete part of the belief ends (also fyi not all Christian denominations believe in it, it's majorly a Catholic and Orthodox belief, I think maybe also Anglican, but most Protestants don't). As for what being in Purgatory is like, that's where there is mostly only speculation and a few possible clues in the Bible.

My opinion is that it'll be rather painful, as the Bible talks of be cleansed by fire and since sin has become so much a part of human nature, it'll be like being awake during surgery with nothing to kill the pain as sin is removed from very part of our being. And I tell you my opinion of Purgatory so that my connection between your picture and my imagination makes a little more sense.
I like your rendition of Purgatory. I like that the bottom is reddish, which I imagine would be the edges of Purgatory where painful sin-extraction occurs (hence why red/orangyness is a good color), and where it leads to Heaven the colors are very soothing a refreshing, a relieving sight after the pain of scraping away all that is sinful. And then the spirals are kinda cloudy which gives the age-old vision of Heaven being in the clouds.

Dang it, I give up. I can't make fractals like this by scratch. I need to practice some more.
