Flood of Renewal by JP-Talma Flood of Renewal by JP-Talma
Fractal thingy 573

Weird fractal.... Hard to name, yet very easy..... I couldn't help but think of the whole purgatory thing again, after :iconheavenriver: mentioned a river in heaven to wash away sins. But I decided to stay a bit more vague. In general water restores things. After a large flood new fertile soilis deposited on the flood plain, allowing the vegetation to become even more lush. Also it washes away other things like pollution. However the same flood that brings life, also takes it away with all the damage it does to people's livelihoods. The Egyptians if I recall acknowledged the value of the flooding of the Nile. I suppose it is no mystery why in the story of Noah the world was purified by a flood. Water is just great. Sorry for all the religious references.... I'm not quite sure why I'm thinking about it...

This fractal is another splits elliptical fractal.... I have to admit... As beautiful as I think they are I would die to see some more variety.... It feel like I see the basic shapes and it's just the colour scheme that is different between them. That's not completely true... But I just hold them to higher quality standards than other types of fractals.

If the blue is not a river, then I say it is light from a super nova, filling the vaccum of space!

How is this not a DD?... T_T (I seem to be asking myself that a lot recently...)

if you are bored on the "normal" elliptic splits you might try something with xaos or replacing the elliptic. [link] is done with julian for example.
[link] is done with "different bluring"
[link] is one with julian -> bipolar instead of cylinders
[link] is one with cylinder splits in the cylinder...

i think these are enough examples of "different" ways of doing elliptic splits. sorry for only picking those from my own gallery... but my own gallery is the easiest to pick examples from since its the one i know best xD.

i still have to agree with michaelfaber though ^^ chapeau ;)

Oh, those are some interesting ideas for sure :D I tried combining splits and Julians last night, but my results were..... Quite different :p Eitherway, I'm going to try these some more. Thanks for the ideas!

elliptic splits "works" cause the "output" of the elliptic is a square so in theory you can replace elliptic with any other plugin and link it to crop. thing is with julia it still looks a bit like an elliptic splits xD.
[link] is also made like that (a chain of linked xforms there but ending in a crop). also julian is involved but it doesnt really look like an elliptic splits xD

I could have guessed you liked pink especially with your Pinkie Pie avatar..... I mean pink pony... I don't know what a Pinkie Pie is... I haven't seen an episode of My Little Pony.... Friendship is not magic! (well, no it actually is)... I'm not a bronie, I'm not a bronie!

*banging head on wall in hopes of getting a concussion to erase the evil thoughts*

WHY!!!! Why must I know this much!!

JP - the one who never centers! Haha, honestly though, in this case I think it's better (read: perfect) that way.

Anyhow, I like how you used the splits/elliptic combo in your style. Very nice color scheme as well. Well done! ;)

Centering things is for noods :p Don't worry... I will center something one day, lol. Glad you feel it is somewhat my style, after I use a tutorial I always feel a bit anxious that I'm betraying my style a little.

Did you mean n00bs? :P Because I usually tend to center everything ... :iconiseewhatudidthereplz: :lmao:

I know the feeling - that's why I evade using tutorials and try to come up with my own little freaks. But when I really want to try something out by another person's instructions, I'm only relieved when my result is almost unrelatable to what I should've achieved. Did it once ... not sure I'll do it again.

Oh, I didn't even think of the 4th of July, quite strange that it is actually red (reddish) white and blue. Either way I'm glad you like it, and I hope you have a happy independence day :D

How do I make these? Hmmm, hopefully I can explain without going on too long :p It is a fractal, so you need a fractal generating program. I use Apophysis 7x which is readily available as a free program on a few sites. The program had many different funtions so the quickest way to get to understand it would be to look at some of the tutorials on DA. I have a few basic ones in my gallery, but there are many other artist who make them. The fractal community on DA is very friendly and many people would be willi to give tips if you ask.

What were the main variations used for this one?

The main shapes are made with the combination of one transform with elliptic and a second with linear + splits. Then a final transform of a Julianscope. There is a little ngon and cylinder in there, but it has minor effects.

There is a tutorial somewhere about how to make split-ecliptic fractals [link]
